Fortunately, there are still plenty of virtual opportunities to flex your language muscles, or travel without getting on a plane! JULY 11, 2020 // DIGITAL SALON: POETRY AS RADICAL EXPRESSION — The Goethe Institut’s digital salon series is ongoing, offering panels & discussions on oft-neglected subjects. This installment takes Audre Lorde’s challenge of Germany’s romantic poetry tradition as a jumping off point. Details and registration here.
JULY 14, 2020 // BASTILLE DAY — The Alliance Française is moving their Bastille Day celebrations online this year! The offerings range from dance parties to cooking masterclasses to virtual wine tastings. More information here.
JULY 16, 2020 // VIRTUAL ITALIAN WINE TASTING — The American Cancer Society is hosting a donation-based tasting program with Tony Margiotta, the owner of an artisanal Italian wine importer. You have the option of ordering the wines covered in the program, or simply donating to a good cause and watching with your own favorite wine in hand! Donation-based tickets available here.
THROUGHOUT JULY // FILM SCREENINGS IN SPANISH — Over the course of this month, the Instituto Cervantes New York is screening various Spanish-language films online — from a little girl creating her own fantasy world in rural Franco-era Spain to the story of how two orphans grow up together and eventually turn on one another. THROUGHOUT JULY // READ PORTUGAL — This month, Visit Portugal has launched Read Portugal, an initiative focused on Portuguese authors whose books are available outside the country, from Fernando Pessoa to José Saramago.
